Alice Diop, Alice Diop’s Danton’s Death brings to light the struggles of a young Black actor from the rough Parisian suburbs, versed in the classics yet only offered “street” roles. In Towards Tenderness, she follows four young Black men “acting” masculine in the streets, with more complicated dreams unexpressed.
